Police women tame Lions

POLICE women continued their winning ways in the Mackeson- sponsored Super 10 Basketball League when they destroyed minnows Chaguanas Lions 89-25 on Tuesday at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.

Veteran forward Tressia Braithwaite drained a season-best 31 points and five rebounds to spearhead the win with Kielle Conelly adding 13 and eight rebounds. The consistent Rhonda John-Davis as well as Nichelle Hinds scored 11 each for Police. The match was an expected one-sided affair with Police taking the opening quarter 23-4 and extending their lead to 45-7 at the half which ended the game as a contest. The struggling Chaguanas Lions got 10 points and 12 rebounds from Kimberly James.

With the win, Police stayed unbeaten in their eight matches played. They are top of the six-team standings with 16 points with their closest challenger Brian Chase Academy three points behind them on 13 points from the same amount of matches.

Meanwhile, Defence Force edged Diego Martin All-Stars 77-63 with Alicia ‘Lizzy’ Liverpool scoring a career-best 41 points with eight rebounds to guide the Army/Coast Guard combination to the win.

Defence Force entered the match needing a win, after winning just twice in seven matches. They grabbed the lead 19-9 in the first quarter and stumbled in the second session to allow their counterparts to take the advantage at the half 34-28. But Liverpool scored 16 points in the final quarter to ensure the victory.

The All-Stars got a battling 27 points from Anika Nottingham while point guard Shenelle Henry added 15.
