JOE PUBLIC and San Juan Jabloteh, the last two winners of the Pro League crowns (2009 and 2008 respectively), will square off in a Round One Match Day Two encounter today as the 2010-2011 season continues.
Today’s match, which kicks off at 8 pm, is the second match of a “Super Friday” double-header, which will be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Both teams had mixed results last Friday in Round One Match Day One at the Mucurapo venue – Joe Public drew 1-1 with Ma Pau while Jabloteh fell 1-0 to W Connection.
Both Joe Public and Jabloteh will be using this match to prepare their squads for next week’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship Cup Final Round, which will be held at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya from May 5-9.
Earlier today, at 6 pm, Ma Pau and St Ann’s Rangers will square off, with both teams seeking their first win of the season – Rangers fell 4-2 to Caledonia AIA at the aforementioned venue on April 24.
Defender/mid-fielder Corneal Thomas, who was a regular at Rangers for the past few seasons, made the move to Ma Pau during the off-season, and he will be seeking to get the better of his former club in today’s meeting.
Tomorrow, joint league leaders Defence Force and North East Stars will also be in action.
Defence Force will oppose fourth-placed W Connection from 4 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima. Both teams have come off the blocks early – Defence Force whipped Police 3-0 while Connection overcame Jabloteh last weekend.
Both Defence Force and Connection have kept the majority of their 2009 teams, and they will be each seeking to secure their second straight triumph. Two other matches are on the cards tomorrow, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
Tobago United will enter the campaign with a meeting against FC South End from 5 pm while, two hours later, North East Stars will face Police.
Caledonia AIA is on a bye this weekend.
