TOP Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Christopher Sellier is the #1 ranked rider in the Kilo in the world.
He earned this following his Pan American record- breaking performance in the Kilometre recently in Aguacalientes, Mexico.
The 25-year old cycling ace sprinted to a time of one minute, 00.9 seconds to better the 1:01.1 clocking set by American rider Jimmy Watkins last year.
With his ride, Sellier who has been at an international cycling school in Switzerland with some of the world best riders including his countryman Njisane Phillip, became the first and only TT cyclist to achieve a top spot in world cycling.
He is also the first TT rider to have broken a Pan American record, coming a year after Phillip became the first and only TT junior cyclist to have won three gold medals at the Pan Am.
And Sellier was favoured to pedal off with the gold medal for the Match Sprint at the National Championship at the Arima Velodrome last night.
On Saturday Sellier who, two days before failed in an attempt to break the national record at the same venue, cruised into the match sprint semis by easily disposing of Elisha Greene in the two lap-races.
Azikwe Kellar, the local match sprint king established a new record in the flying 200 metres in 11.125 seconds.
Sellier finished runner-up in 11.161 seconds, both finishing just outside the world record time (11.01 seconds).
Third also set a new personal record in the event in a time of 11.396- only one hundredth of a second faster than top junior Quincy Alexander (11.397 seconds). Haseem McLean was third best while establishing a new national record in the flying 200 metres among juniors.
