VAUGHN WILSON needed two and a half hours to defeat Adrian De Silva 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to claim the boys Under-18 singles title in yesterday’s penultimate day of the RBTT Tobago Open Tennis Tournament, at the Shaw Park Public Courts, Scarborough. Wilson, the top seed, and De Silva, the second seed, were expected to put on a show and they duly obliged under the sunny conditions, but Wilson prevailed in the key moments to walk away with the title.

American-born Kandis Legall took the girls Under-18 singles trophy, following a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over Trevine Sellier.

Scott Lanser won the boys Under-14 single crown, by virtue of a come- from-behind 3-5, 4-1, 4-2 victory over Elan Mendes, in a clash of the top two seeds, while fourth-seeded Xavier King whipped third-seeded Randy Bailey 7-6 (4), 6-4 to walk away with the men’s Over-45 singles title.

And, in the boys 14-18 doubles final, the pair of Mendes and Lanser defeated Ty and Joshua Abraham 7-5, 6-2.

Up to press time, the Men’s “A” singles final was being contested between Andrew De Silva, the third seed, and top ranked Yohansey Williams.

The tournament will conclude today, from 3 pm, with the finals of the Men’s “B” singles and men’s doubles categories.
