In the preliminaries, Swimming in Heat Two, Romany touched the wall in 52.36 seconds, eclipsing his own record of 53.03 seconds. The old record was established at the CISC Championships in Cuba. The gold medal and “A” Final winner was Australia’s Kenneth To in 50.16 seconds.

At the championships thus far, Romany has made the “B” Final and new 13-14 male national record in the 200m freestyle. Swimming in the preliminary heat of the 200m freestyle, Romany touched the wall in 1:56.27 seconds eclipsing his old time and the previous record of 1:56.80. The TT age group champion has continued his success in this event winning gold medals in CARIFTA and CISC in the 200m freestyle.

It was at CARIFTA where he first erased the 2001 National Mark of 1:57.53 held by Nicholas Bovell.

He has cut down almost two seconds since his initial April record splash. Romany, the youngest male athlete at Junior Pan Pacs, next competes on Sunday in the 50m freestyle where he is aiming to be the first 13-14 male swimmer to go sub-24 second in the event. He is currently the 13-14 male national record holder with a time of 24.05 seconds.
