CALEDONIA Clippers grabbed their first win of the North Zone Basketball Commission League for the current season when they defeated the Unit Trust Pistons 78-61 in a First Division encounter at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Saturday.
The Clippers got a top score of 18 points in the encounter from the impressive Kerwin Lares, as his team dominated the proceedings from start to finish.
With Lares in terrific form, the Clippers took the advantage early 20-16 and maintained it to the half-way interval 38-26.
Edward Francis and Darren Baptiste also downed 12 points apiece, as the Morvant-based team led after the third session 61-46 before securing the win by an amazing 17 points.
With the victory the Clippers moved to eight on the nine-team standing with four points from three matches.
The Pistons are bottom of the table on four points from as many matches, although they have lost all their encounters. On Saturday they got 16 points from Shornelle Pompey and 11 from Anderson Scott.
Teams are given two points for a victory and one point for a defeat. One organiser who wished not to be named explained that they are using the points system that is used by the world governing body for basketball- FIBA.
The chart is being led by National Flour Mills (NFM), multiple winners of the championship who have moved to six points from four matches.
The NFM men have won twice and lost as many times in four encounters, for six points. They are tied with the Defence Force. The Army are yet to be beaten after three encounters.
Meanwhile in a Second Division encounter Diego Martin All Stars pulled off a 75-52 win over Off Limits while the Defence Force clobbered the Clippers 76-46 at the same venue.
