IT could well be called the calm after the storm, that Arima Race Club Day 35 programme at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday.
Only seven races have been framed with the feature being the Futurity Stakes for locally-bred two-year-old horses.
The “babes” as they are fondly called will be going over 1100 metres for a purse of $100,000.
There are just eight “babes” entered for this race in which turfites will be looking to spot any future champions.
So far, the outstanding ones are Remember Me, Sleepinginthong and Red-Hot Wheels.
But with two-year-olds anything can happen in a race.
Turfites fancying the Hi5 betting looks certain to have three races to wager on, the third with 13 runners, fifth with nine, and the Restricted Handicap over 1300 metres which has attracted ten entrants.
Flower Girl who is entered in the day’s opener showed some spunk yesterday morning galloping 400 metres in a handy 25.4 seconds.
Also shaping well yesterday was the five-year-old Wrathed who breezed over 1000 metres in the handy time of one minute 06.1 seconds.
Angelica Jane who comes out in the third race showed she must be respected with a gallop clocked in 24.3 seconds over 400 metres.
For most of yesterday morning, however, trainers sent their charges to do pace work.
