Richards: Softball association must include PMS

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Director of Sports, Mervyn “MR” Richards, has sought to address concerns over the issuing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Antigua & Barbuda Softball Cricket Association (ABSCA) for the field immediately west of Princess Margaret Secondary School following calls from at least one former national athlete for the agreement to be made null and void.

Richards, during an interview with OBSERVER Sports on Sunday, said although the ministry had in fact signed an MOU with the softball cricket association, it is only for them to manage the facility in terms of its usage and that all decisions with regards to upgrades and usage must first be discussed to the school as stated in the MOU.

Government pushes school sports

Basketball is one of the focus sports being pushed.

Sports are a staple of life in the Cayman Islands and now they are set to take a deeper root in local children.

The Ministry of Education has partnered with The Ministry of Sports to stage an after-school sports programme for public secondary school students. The endeavour is in its second term after a soft launch last Fall.

Peyton not ruling out Jets move

Peyton Manning has been rumoured to join the New York Jets, if and when he gets released from the Indianapolis Colts. For his part the star quarterback has not ruled out a move East.

Manning says he has no plans to retire and that his recovery from neck surgery is on schedule.

BLIMP MISSES SUPER BOWL

The Skyship 600 blimp which was purchased by the TT Government for US$15 million and sold to an American company, late last year for US$50,000 , was supposed to be used at yesterday’s Super Bowl final at the Lucas Oil Stadium, in Indianapolis, United States.

However, a late payment by the US company which purchased the controversial skyship caused the blimp to miss the Super Bowl.
