Blazers forfeit Trojans clash over safety fears

Boulevard were forced to forfeit their Premier Division game against Somerset Trojans at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday amid fears of gang violence.

Due to a shortage of players, with many feeling unsafe travelling to the West End, relegation threatened Blazers had no choice but to concede the game to Trojans, who were awarded a 3-0 win.

Dandy Town Hornets took a giant leap towards a second Premier League championship in three seasons with a hard fought win over nearest rivals PHC at St John’s Field yesterday.

Super sub Brendan Minors leapt from the bench in the 85th minute and scored the game winner in stoppage time with his first touch of the ball to send Hornets five-points clear of Zebras at the summit.

St David’s missed a golden opportunity to draw level with Southampton Rangers in the league after the two sides drew at Southampton Oval yesterday.

Football promotion race intensifies

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Golden Stars of Urlings and Swetes were winners in Antigua & Barbuda Football Association First Division matches on Saturday as the promotion race intensifies.

Golden Stars, playing at home against Bethesda, won by a goal to nil. Robin Toussaint’s 42nd minute goal was just enough for his team to earn the three valuable points. Both teams had many more opportunities to score but wasted them.

Ref no-shows upsets parents

Parents of child and youth footballers are in agreement with frustrated coaches who are fed up of preparing their teams for matches only to see the boys and girls not get games because match officials do not turn up.

There is widespread concern with the Cayman Islands Football Association that there are not enough officials for youth games and it is affecting morale amongst youngsters who are being put off playing and turning to other sports or activities as a result.
