STEPHENSON... first goal for Earthquakes since joining MLS outfit in August
JAMAICAN International midfielder Khari Stephenson scored his first goal since joining the MLS team San Jose Earthquakes in August to help the team to a 2-1 win over the Houston Dynamo in MSL action at the weekend.
Stephenson slotted home a cross in the sixth minute of play from the right flank by Brazilian striker Geovanni in the game on Sunday night in Houston, Texas. As teammate Geovanni slipped by three Houston defenders on the right flank, Stephenson arrived into the goal area and met the cross just on the six-yard box and sweetly drove the ball with his right foot into the far corner of the goal, giving the Dynamo's goalkeeper no chance.
The Dynamos equalised in time added in the first half, but Geovanni returned in the 65th minute to score from a low drive to earn the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-1 victory. The victory by the Earthquakes was their third in four matches since Stephenson joined the team.
The Earthquakes are now on 32 points in fifth place in the Western Conference of the MLS, still with two games in hand over their rivals. San Jose will next meet FC Dallas on Saturday.
