Ray Williams led his team to a comfortable 129-run berth with an unbeaten 53 on the day.
SOME solid bowling from Shamar Persaud rounded up the strays as the YMPC Juniors moved on to a 26-run victory to secure their third win in the Inspire Sports/National Sports Council Under-13 Cricket Competition.
Playing at the Beckles Road ground yesterday, the smallest man on the field redeemed himself by taking a commanding four-wicket haul to give the visitors their first loss of the competition.
Batting first, the hosts got off to a tough start, losing the early wickets of Persaud (1) and Lejani Cherry (0). The introduction of Ray Williams at number four saw YMPC making some headway. The right-hand bat rained shots to finish with an unbeaten 53 at the end of the 35-over innings. Also putting up major figures for the hosts was Shakib Kellman, who looked as though he would not be very useful after being struck hard in the mid-section. However, the young lad would shake off the blow and go on to strike four 4’s and a six on the way to 27 runs before he was dismissed by Zachary Nowell.
Nowell ended the day with two wickets to his name for 22 runs. His teammate, Dante Niles, took two of his own for 15, while Christopher Taitt had three for 27. With YMPC making 129 for the loss of seven in their 35 overs, the visitors took to the crease with the opening pair of Nowell (18) and Mark Cyrus (6). After some commendable play, Carlton got up to 81 for the loss of six in the 19th over. With victory still in their grasp, wickets continued to fall at an alarming rate to see all players being sent back to the pavilion halfway through the 22nd over on 103 runs.
Carlton, who are now 2-1 after losing to the YMPC Juniors, have given the hosts their third win in four games. Play continues next Sunday with games at several venues across the island.
